Nourishment as a thank you and a great motivational boost

"I'm happy every time there's a knock at my door," says Ingrid Förster. The patient from number 306 appreciates the motivated and helpful nature of the nursing students on ward 3 at the Vinzenz Pallotti Hospital. They have taken charge here for a month and have slipped into the role of a registered nurse.

"Working on the ward over the past three years has taught us a lot," says trainee Maja Merchlewitz. Nevertheless, it was helpful to refresh her own knowledge in advance. "We attended training courses in the areas of resuscitation, IT and hygiene." Of course, there were still questions for the accompanying examiners and practice managers: How do I order a transport? What do I do in an emergency situation?

After a sometimes stressful familiarisation period with many new tasks, the ward teams have settled in well and developed a routine. "The tasks were distributed fairly and at the daily meeting we pointed out to each other the things we could still work on," reports Merchlewitz. The independent work was great fun for all the senior course students from Rhein-Berg: "You get to know the job in a completely different way, which motivates you for the exam," she concludes.

The prospective nursing staff received one compliment after another from their patients, and Förster is also certain: "I felt that I was in good hands from the outset and benefited greatly from this great project".

For the final spurt on the student ward, the nursing students received a gift basket with plenty of nourishment from Commercial Director Katrin Aulenkamp and the nursing management team.
